Going into university was my first time seeing so many young people vaping and doing different sorts of drugs. I really thought this was something you would only see in movies to get the plot going, and was surprised to find that it is an actual problem many people face.
The dark and heavy atmosphere in this composition was inspired mostly by Gabor Maté's Ted Talk titled "The Power of Addiction and The Addiction of Power" where he talks about his own and his patients' experiences with different types of addictions they encounter.
At first I wanted to create a piece that is similar to the gory images in cigarette packaging, but I deviated from that because I wanted the viewer to take the time to find out what happened to this man in the background and take that time to be reminded on taking care of one's body by removing similar vices.
